Sometimes grown-up stuff is hard. Sometimes, just when you think you have a handle on things, something happens that makes your world spin and have you crying for mommy.
Take what just happened my friend, Heather. Heather is one of those people with amazing energy – just radiates calm and peace. She’s traveled the world making strangers her friends and strange places her home. Basically she’s the opposite of me and my angsty-antisocial self. And, on top of everything else, she is smart and beautiful. Like freakin’ smart and model beautiful. Here in the middle of Nashville, Heather has created an open café with rooms to rent for meetings or writing or dance – Atmalogy - which is fundamentally a place for artists to create. …The vibe is like a big hug from an old friend, or like slipping on your favorite sweater. Her place is friendly and comfortable. Each of the rooms have different names that serve as …prompts, reminders that to be productive, healthy members of society we must constantly renew ourselves, create new things, make new connections, share our passions, and inspire others. Heck, there’s even a room with floor to celling windows filled with beanbags. And that room is perfect for snuggling up in with a book, or for nestling in while writing the great American novel. Or, in my case, it’s a perfect room to spend time editing the same damn story I’ve been working on for ten years and will probably never finish. Regardless of your creative passion, you can find a space to explore it at Atmalogy and a community to share it with. As her website says: … Atmalogy means the study of one's true self. A place that values artists and gives them a place to meet and share their art. A place that supports community by hosting wellness-based workshops. A place that kindles the fire of the hardworking entrepreneur, the dreamer and the doer combined. See, as a grown-up, Heather had a handle on things. But then Monday night, some ASS took it upon himself to rob her store. Not okay. Now, if someone robbed me, there would likely be a barrage of cuss words and curses upon their soul spewing from my lips. Loudly. I would probably be calling up gods I don’t believe in to smite them down while hunting for a voodoo doll in their likeness to stab repeatedly. Because I’m me and I’m not kindness and light and peace. Heather, as I said, is not like me. Heather did not curse or cuss or stab anything. No, Heather said this, “Well I hope whoever robbed Atmalogy last night needed that money more than I (the struggling business) do. Doubtful but it's the only thing I can hang on to” See, Heather is good people. Those shit robbers, not so much. But they didn’t know that Heather has created a community and this community is rallying to put the good back into the world, into her world. With in moments of her posting about the theft, folks were sharing her plight and pledging to come by and buy a coffee in support. So, If you’re in Nashville and reading this, please take yourself to Atmalogy for a coffee or tea and have a snuggle in the beanbags and maybe buy some of the art on sale (like perhaps a Stabby Tree made by yours truly). Rejuvenate yourself while spreading the karma love to one beautiful lady. And if you're not in Nashville, please stop by and support your local small business. Let’s not end this year with yuck but with love!
